The TSW Indy 500 wheel is the official wheel of the Indianapolis 500
race, the most famous open wheel race in the United States, located at
the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, Indiana. The event, billed as "The
Greatest Spectacle in Racing", is one of the oldest and richest motor
sport events worldwide. The first "500" was held at the speedway on
1911, won by Ray Harroun in 6:42.8. The fastest average winning speed
at the Indy 500 is 185.9 mph – achieved by Arie Luyendyk in 1990.
The Indy 500 has hosted many memorable race events. These include
female racing legend Danica Patrick’s riveting almost-win in 2005,
after leading for 19 laps, and losing by 4.55 seconds to Daniel Wheldon
of England. Another is Danny Sullivan’s “spin and win” victory in 1985
– referring to his winning of the Indy 500 following a 360 degrees
spin down the south chute at Indy and passing Mario Andretti for the
lead in the race’s 120th lap. Racing that reinforces the Indianapolis
500’s storied past and is predictive of Indy’s captivating future.
